I have had migraines since about 1980...about 4 per year. Since about 1994 before the pain, I get a warning. A circular string of lights (rainbow in color) appear in my vision moving in a clockwise direction. It starts small as a point, then expands until it is out of view. When it starts I have about 30 minuets to find a dark room, take 3 advil, a Sommex and flat location (no pillow) otherwise I pay big-time. I actually avoid the pain to the most part. I find it boring to lay there with my eyes closed and a wet cloth for 6 to 10 hours and intrusive on an active life. I’ve tried the typical food avoidance and have found no correlation for me.
Interestingly I have had only one in the last 4 years. In this time period, I have been in intensive short term dynamic psycho therapy which has had a wonderful effect in reversing post traumatic stress disorder from a past career. I wonder if the reduction in migraines is a side benefit of the work?
