Since I live in Israel, I do sometimes feel like some sort of security expert when I'm around you newly aroused americans. Security considerations allow police to stop any car at any time and search it if they are suspicious of anything. Cars are stopped for routine licence/registration check ups all the time. My husband always makes the cop show is ID, just to remind them that they are NOT dealing with a criminal.
This is all really a very fine line, and America always looks so loose and wide open to someone who is used to Israeli style security . But the fact remains that some of these security actions do help to deter somewhat some of the terrorist acts. They are only partially effective, but when you think of the casualities in a successful attack, you thank god for that partial success.
One of the reasons that it is so easy for the Israeli government to place strick security regulations on the public, is that we do not have a constitution or a bill or rights! All I can say to you guys, is that we humans can learn to live with anything and still wake up every morning and enjoy the sunshine and the bird song.
Love to all,
Myra
