I'm sure you could use anything that had fruit and bloomed! Best is round, orange or golden fruit. Then go from there. You ever been to Monticello? Check out the orchard. A lot of different fruit trees to choose from.
Putting them in pots would be good in your area. They can be outside when its nice and warm, then inside for the coldest part of the year. Don't forget global warming! You will be able to have them outdoors more and more as the years go by (if you listen to Gore...)
We've got global warming right outside the kitchen window today - TONS of snow on the mountains, lower and closer than I've ever seen it in the 30 years I've lived out here! YEAH!
